An exquisite three-course dinner with music by Elías Estrada on the piano accompanied the auction of works of art held on Saturday night at Casa Haas, actions in search of inclusion and in support of people with different abilities.

The money raised will be used to purchase an elevator for the Ángela Peralta Theater, to facilitate access for people with disabilities to the second and third floors of the cultural venue and to the Ángela Peralta Gallery.

The event attended by dozens of good-hearted people was organized by the Academia de Sueños Especiales Foundation founded by Michael Dergar to help artists with different abilities around the world and by Galería Baupres chaired by the fine artist Dory Perdomo, with support from the Instituto Municipal de Cultura, Turismo y Arte de Mazatlán, which previously opened the doors of the Ángela Peralta Gallery to the exhibition “A qué huele el arte de María” and provided the old Mariano Escobedo house for the dinner and auction of works of art.

When welcoming the public, the General Director of CULTURA, Raúl Rico González, thanked Michael Dergar and Dory Perdomo for taking action and leading a movement that carries out projects in favor of inclusion and people with different abilities.

He highlighted that in life there are projects that light a spark, infect and excite and invite support like the one that happened that night.

Rico González recognized the work done by Michael Dergar who has done a wonderful job in Mazatlán because he has shown how to do things and how to motivate others to do them.

When there is will, interest, and personal dedication things work, he maintained.

In turn, Michael Dergar reiterated his commitment to not give up on his purpose of raising awareness that the disabled community has to have a place in society.

The Mazatlan resident based in Los Angeles, California thanked everyone for their contribution, for their grain of sand and for being willing to make a difference and wanting a Mazatlán that is more accessible to everyone.

The benefactor highlighted that through the Foundation it has been possible to cross borders and touch hearts to donate wheelchairs, provide scholarships and bring faith and hope to people with disabilities.

Michael Dergar thanked Cultura for believing in this dream and for providing its facilities so that the dinner and auction could take place.

“For me as the founder of the Academia de Sueños Especiales it is a pride to be from Mazatlan and to be able to bring these resources from the United States to Mexico and thanks to all the sponsors, I have friends here who flew just to be at this event, people who have supported more than ten years at the foundation, we have many groups that have collaborated with us, and have given us the support and strength to move forward,” he stated.

He thanked the guests and each of the artists present for donating a piece of art, and in some cases up to two, because they have the vision of inclusion and wanting a more accessible world for everyone.

Before concluding his participation, Michael Dergar gave life recognitions to special people for standing up and showing that goals and dreams can be achieved in life.

During the gala dinner, 25 paintings donated by fine artists were auctioned: Eduardo Santamaría, Carlos Zeta, Lucila Santiago, Alejandro Mojica, Cecilia Sánchez Duarte, Gabriel Miranda, Patricia Carmona, Yunavi Barraza Luna, Isabel Cristina Rengifo, among others.
