Destino Tchaikovsky was presented on the night of November 10th at the Ángela Peralta Theater as part of the celebrations of the 30th anniversary of the Festival Cultural Mazatlán 2023.
Enrique Patrón de Rueda was the Concert Director, he impeccably directed the increasingly majestic Camerata Mazatlán; Penélope Luna, a soprano who graduated from the Bachelor’s Degree in Singing at the Higher School of Music of the Instituto de Cultura de Mazatlán, began the performance by performing the Concerto for soprano and orchestra op. 82 by the Ukrainian composer Reinhold Gliére, classified as a piece that pays tribute to the voice.
In this regard, soprano Penélope Luna, who left the stage very surprised and moved by the emotional reaction of the audience, shared with us the meaning that this concert has for her.
“This piece means a lot to me because the person who suggested me to put it on was Maestro Patrón about ten years ago or so, he was the one who proposed this project to me and at that time it was a small room that was not like it is now, and even so it was a beautiful work that we enjoyed a lot, from that time on I began to sing this concerto on other occasions, under his direction, under the direction of other orchestra conductors as well, so it has become part of my repertoire, but it remains a challenge all the time because it demands a lot vocally, so although I consider it part of my repertoire I don’t relax because it is always difficult to do it,” highlighted the Mazatlecan performer.
The moment followed for the Camerata Mazatlán under the direction of maestro Enrique Patrón de Rueda to perform Symphony No. 5 op. 64 by Tchaikovsky, who is also the composer of three ballets: “The Nutcracker”, “Swan Lake” and “Sleeping Beauty”.
Tchaikovsky wrote romantic and powerful pieces. He grew up during the time of Tsar Nicholas I under the precepts of the Russian Orthodox Church. It is said that he was a sensitive, melancholic, neurotic, tormented and depressed man who found his refuge and peace in music. He was a man who lived in constant disagreement with the world and the society with which he lived.
Tchaikovsky faced two lives, the one he lived and the one he wanted, in this context Symphony No. 5 was a rigorous test for the Camerata Mazatlán, the aesthetics of the Symphony are impeccable with all the content of emotional passion and with closings that give adjectives to the explosiveness of human incomprehension, with silences that interrupt the sounds so that their musical notes have time to finish traveling through our consciences.
Nina Farvarshchuk, concertmaster of the Camerata Mazatlán, described that Tchaikovsky was a composer, a genius, and the music he wrote has a lot of power, his pieces are almost always very successful, we are going to say that his last two symphonies, which are the fifth and the Sixth are tragic symphonies, written at an advanced age, they have a lot of drama, they have love themes and obviously his work demonstrates Russian folk music, almost all the music is based on fragments of Russian songs.
Faced with this rigorous examination with the interpretation of this concert, maestro Enrique Patrón de Rueda and the Camerata Mazatlán obtained honorary applause from the attendees, more than a minute of applause, during which time maestro Patrón threw white roses to the members of the splendid and majestic Camerata Mazatlán.
