Before a select literature-loving audience, at Literary Thursday writer and researcher José Carlos Zazueta Manjarrez presented his children’s books “Romina and the grumpy cloud” and “Short Stories of the Imagination” ; The proceeds from the sale of each copy are donated to UNICEF to support their programs in favor of children who live in marginalized conditions in our country.

During the event the writer was accompanied by Luis Antonio Martínez Peña and Frida Fernández, who brought the presentation to a successful conclusion.

The author shared that in his youth he published his first stories in the magazine “Encuentro”, which represented his first steps in literature.

“Short Stories of the Imagination” was his first published book, made up of micro stories written by the author 40 years ago when he was studying at the School of Anthropology.

“The short story has one characteristic, I think it is the most important, which is that when the reader begins to read the story, even if it is the first paragraph and even if it is one page long, he will never be able to guess the ending, if the reader does, it is a failed story, I learned this from Edmundo Valadez, a true connoisseur of the genre,” exclaimed the author.

About “Romina and the Grumpy Cloud,” José Carlos Zazueta said that the story is about a girl who likes to draw, go to school, and one day from the classroom window, she sees a big cloud that is angry. She tries to advise him so that she can have a happier life; The book was published last year and so far it has been well received.

Zazueta Manjarrez added that in his professional life as a Social Anthropologist, he has collaborated with UNICEF, and by his own decision, seeing that the world organization supports Mexico, the profits from his publications go directly to this institution that addresses children’s problems in the states of Chiapas, Oaxaca and Guerrero.

At the end of the event, recognitions were given to the participants, awarded by the Instituto de Cultura de Mazatlán.

The Literary Thursday program is promoted by the Instituto de Cultura de Mazatlán, an initiative of teacher María Muñiz who coordinates the programming and presents the guests every week. For the next edition to be held on November 30th, Rubén Rivera’s poetry book will be presented, winner of the Aguascalientes Prize for Literature with “Defensa de Oficio.”
